The President of Sierra Leone and Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, has successfully completed high-level visits to Guinea-Bissau, The Gambia, Cape Verde, and Senegal.

The high-level visits were notably aimed at reinforcing regional collaboration to address key challenges facing West Africa.

During his visits, President Bio received a warm reception from fellow leaders, including President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea-Bissau, President Adama Barrow of The Gambia, President José Maria Neves of Cape Verde, and President Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal.

Each leader congratulated President Bio on his election as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority and expressed their commitment to working together on regional issues.

In his discussions, President Bio outlined the importance of collective action in overcoming obstacles that threaten economic integration and regional stability. He emphasized the need to combat terrorism, enhance democratic governance, and promote intra-regional trade.

“The urgency of strengthening cooperation with all ECOWAS member states, especially those in political transition, cannot be overstated,” President Bio remarked.

He also asserted the necessity of building stronger partnerships between ECOWAS and the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).

These high-level engagements is deemed as a major step of unifying leaders in addressing the challenges faced by the ECOWAS community. President Bio plans to draw on the experiences of previous ECOWAS Chairpersons to drive progress during his tenure.

Earlier last week, President Bio conducted similar high-level visits to Togo, Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire, reaffirming his commitment to fostering collaboration and unity in the region.
