His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, accompanied by First Lady Dr. Fatima Bio, attended the Centennial Celebration Dinner of the Dakhlallah Antar Family, marking 100 years of the family’s presence and contributions to Sierra Leone.
The event, held at the Antar Family Residence in Hill Station, brought together government officials, diplomats, and community leaders.
In her welcoming address, Hendia Sahid Antar, granddaughter of the late patriarch Dakhlallah Antar, expressed gratitude to guests for joining the historic occasion. She described the family’s century-long journey as one of resilience, heritage, and enduring service to the people of Sierra Leone.
Honourable Alhaji Dr. Alpha Kanu, a longtime associate, hailed the celebration as historic, recalling the family’s settlement in Port Loko in 1925 and their integration into the district’s social, cultural, and economic life. He paid tribute to the late Dakhlallah Antar, describing him as a generous humanitarian whose death in 1966 prompted widespread grief.
The family’s contributions to national development were highlighted, including donations to military and healthcare facilities, construction of schools and mosques, support for water projects, and installation of solar streetlights. This year, the government appointed several family members as Special Envoys in recognition of their service.
The evening concluded with President Bio cutting the 100-year anniversary cake, joined by members of the Antar family, celebrating a century of heritage, service, and national commitment.
