Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio is scheduled to embark on a significant journey to Rome, Italy this Sunday, where he will participate in the United Nations food systems summit+2 stocktaking moment (UNFSS+2) at the esteemed Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) headquarters.
The summit, which will take place from July 24th to 26th, is set to host approximately 2000 participants representing more than 160 countries, including over 20 heads of state and government.
The main objective of this high-profile meeting is to provide a conducive platform for nations to assess the progress made on the commitments to action, originally formulated during the first food systems summit held in 2021. By gathering global leaders, policymakers, and experts in the field, the summit aims to identify successful strategies and initiatives to transform and improve food systems worldwide.
Organized by the United Nations Secretariat and co-hosted by Italy in collaboration with the Rome-based UN agencies, namely FAO, IFAD, and WFP, the event will officially commence on Monday, July 24th, at 14:30 CEST.
This momentous occasion will be inaugurated during a high-level opening ceremony led by the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, and the Prime Minister of Italy.
With the participation of President Bio and other prominent world leaders, the FAO Summit in Rome is anticipated to be a pivotal gathering that fosters collaboration and innovative solutions to address the pressing challenges facing global food systems.
As the world faces numerous issues, such as food insecurity and climate change, the collective efforts of these nations will be crucial in building a sustainable and food-secure future for all.
