President Julius Maada Bio, an alumnus of Bo Government Secondary School (Bo School), attended the school’s annual Speech Day and Prize-Giving Ceremony on Friday, 18 April 2025.
The event, organized by the Old Bo Boys Association (OBBA), was attended by students, alumni, teachers, and various dignitaries.
In his address, President Bio shared memories from his time at Bo School. “I will never get tired of attending Bo School activities,” he said. “When children see the President coming to their school, it inspires them to learn. If we are successful today, it is because of Bo School, which paved the way for us through discipline and hard work.”
He also discussed his government’s commitment to creating opportunities for every child in Sierra Leone. “I chose human capital development because I believe in creating opportunities for every child,” President Bio said. “It doesn’t matter where they come from; every child deserves the chance to gain knowledge and succeed.”
President Bio encouraged students to take advantage of modern educational tools. “The world is changing, and you have to change with it,” he told the students. “Embrace the opportunities available to you, especially in technology, to compete on a global scale.”
The event also featured remarks from His Excellency Wang Qing, the Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, who expressed appreciation for Bo School’s legacy. He spoke about the ongoing educational cooperation between China and Sierra Leone and highlighted the support given to Bo School students through scholarships. “I look forward to a growing relationship between China and Bo School,” Ambassador Wang said.
The ceremony ended with the presentation of academic prizes to top-performing students, recognizing achievements across a variety of subjects. Acting Principal of Bo School, Mr. Kosia Micheal S. 4208, also provided updates on the school’s academic progress and improvements in infrastructure.
