Sierra Leone President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio on Saturday, April 4, 2026, commissioned a fleet of buses, vehicles, and motorcycles for the health sector at the Bo Government Hospital, as part of efforts to improve healthcare service delivery across the country.
The commissioning ceremony took place in Bo, where the President had been attending anniversary celebrations of the Old Bo Boys Association.
The newly unveiled equipment includes 10 buses designated for nurses across five districts, sport utility vehicles for medical superintendents, and motorcycles to support healthcare operations.

The latest development follows the President’s recent commissioning of a CT scan, ultrasound equipment, and a modern burns unit at Connaught Hospital, signaling continued investment in the country’s health infrastructure.
In a statement made after the ceremony in Bo, President Bio highlighted the significance of the initiative in supporting healthcare workers and improving access to services.

“Today in Bo, I proudly commissioned 10 buses for nurses across 5 districts, along with SUVs for medical superintendents and motorbikes – a historic milestone!” he said.
He added, “We are steadily building a robust infrastructure to empower our healthcare workers and deliver top-quality care to all Sierra Leoneans.”

The provision of the buses, vehicles, and motorcycles is expected to enhance mobility for health personnel, improve supervision, and strengthen outreach services, particularly in remote and underserved communities.
The commissioning forms part of the government’s broader strategy to upgrade healthcare systems and ensure that citizens across Sierra Leone have access to improved and efficient medical services.
