President Julius Maada Bio has today, July 4th, 2025, officially commissioned the Mattru Bridge, reflecting a crucial milestone in his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development in Sierra Leone.

The event, which took place in Bonthe District, was attended by local leaders and community members who celebrated the completion of the new two-lane bridge.

In his address, President Bio emphasized the importance of the Mattru Bridge as part of his government’s Big Five Agenda, which aims to ensure that development reaches all corners of the country.

Today, we commissioned the Mattru Bridge, fulfilling another promise to our people,” he stated. “Through the Connectivity and Agricultural Market Infrastructure Project (CAMIP), we are also building four more bridges: Komrabai, Kabbah Ferry, Sumbuya, and Moselolo.”

The Mattru Bridge replaces a ferry crossing that had served the area for over 64 years, significantly improving access between Mattru Jong and Senehun, as well as nearby communities.

The construction of the bridge was overseen by the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), with Director General Ing. Alfred Jalil Momodu ensuring that all technical requirements were met throughout the project.

The successful completion of the Mattru Bridge has bolstered the belief among the residents of Bonthe District that President Bio is fulfilling his promises to improve infrastructure and connectivity in the region.
