President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone has been bestowed the prestigious title of “Tuioataga,” or King, by the residents of Magiagi village in Samoa.

This remarkable honor, rich in cultural significance, was conferred during President Bio’s visit to the village for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

Magiagi village, which symbolically represented Sierra Leone during the Commonwealth meeting, welcomed President Bio with open arms. The village chief, Faatasi Puleiata, and the community expressed their deep respect for the President and their admiration for Sierra Leone.

“I am truly elated to receive this huge honour,” President Bio shared, expressing his gratitude for the unique recognition. He emphasized his commitment to strengthening the bond between Sierra Leone and Magiagi village, referring to the village as “a piece of Sierra Leone in Samoa.”

The crowning ceremony was steeped in Samoan tradition, involving the presentation of title sticks by village chiefs and the ceremonial preparation of kava, a traditional beverage. Chief Luafau Aimaasu formally declared President Bio as “Tuioataga,” signifying his high standing within the village and Samoa.
