Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio has left the Pacific nation of Samoa for the United States on Sunday morning where he will be attending the World Food Prize event in Iowa.
“I departed Samoa today for the State of Iowa in the United States to attend the World Food Prize,” Bio said on his official Facebook account.
The President said that his invitation to the event in Iowa as a result of the attention and determination poured into his Feed Salone Pre has garnered recently. The programme, which has been launched in the West African nation, aims to provide adequate food for consumption and export in the next five years.
The World Food Prize is a Foundation founded by businessman and philanthropist John Ruan, Sr. with support from the Governor and State Legislature of Iowa in 1990.
The Foundation, each year, invites, recognises and rewards individuals making exceptional achievements in addressing food security.
Every year, global leaders are convened in Des Moines to address the latest issues and innovations in food and agriculture, inspires and recognises exceptional students in Iowa, in the U.S. and around the world by providing educational and professional experiences on pressing food security and agriculture issues and addresses the State of Iowa’s challenges and successes in fighting hunger and poverty through the Iowa Hunger Summit and Directory.
