President Julius Manda Bio during a Presidential Town Hall meeting at the Bintumani International Conference Center addressed concerns regarding the Energy Sector expressing strong dissatisfaction with the poor performance of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA).
The President while highlighting the crucial need for effective public sector management to reform Sierra Leone’s energy sector, he emphasized the collective responsibility to safeguard electricity infrastructure from illegal activities such as electricity theft and vandalism of transformers and transmission lines.
He said as a nation, “We must all work together to protect our electricity supply.”
He also stated that a significant portion of the $480 million MCC compact grant will be allocated to the Energy Sector to bolster its infrastructure and operational efficiency.
President Bio further criticized officials and staff of EDSA for alleged collusion and corruption within the organization, hindering the efficient distribution of electricity across the country. He pointed out technical faults and substandard transmission cables as major obstacles to reliable power generation and distribution.
“Together, we can overcome these challenges by putting an end to illegal electricity theft,” President Bio urged.
He assured citizens of tangible improvements in the energy sector during his tenure, by highlighted ongoing projects aimed at enhancing sustainable and reliable energy access across Sierra Leone through the MCC compact grant.
In conclusion, President Julius Bio reiterated his commitment to implementing robust reforms in the energy sector, promising a brighter future with improved electricity supply for all Sierra Leoneans.
