Opposition voices have sharply criticized President Julius Maada Bio following claims about the condition of the State House, after the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary ceremony held on Monday, April 27, 2026.
The criticism was led by opposition politician Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray, who made strong remarks regarding the state of the presidential seat of power. In a statement, he alleged neglect of the facility while accusing the President of prioritizing personal property investments.
“You see Sierra Leone Statehouse. Maada Bio has no shame. Maada Bio and his wife are building and buying mansions in and out of Sierra Leone but they ignore to repair Statehouse. Maada is a disgrace,” he stated.
Similar concerns were also raised on the Facebook page “The Mighty APC,” which described the condition of the State House as unacceptable. The post read: “State House Condition Shameful Condition. The Office of the President/Seat of Power, and look at the condition. This tells you everything about the current state of Sierra Leone. Maada Bio Very Irresponsible and Reckless.”
The statements were made in reaction to the Independence Day ceremony hosted at the State House, which brought attention to the physical state of the building. Critics argue that the condition of such a key national symbol reflects broader governance and infrastructure concerns.
As of the time of reporting, there has been no official response from the government or the Office of the President addressing the allegations raised by the opposition and the social media post.
State House serves as the official residence and principal workplace of the President of Sierra Leone, making its upkeep a matter of national importance and public interest.
