President Julius Maada Bio has conveyed a message of unity, resilience, and gratitude, reflecting on the challenges and achievements of 2024 while calling on Sierra Leoneans to embrace the true spirit of the Christmas season.

In his annual Christmas broadcast, President Bio said, “Christmas is a time of hope time when we reflect on the true meaning of love, compassion, and the strength of together,” highlighting the underpin nation’s journey through a year by global and local challenges.

The President lauded the unwavering spirit of Sierra Leoneans, from farmers ensuring food security to healthcare workers risking their lives, security forces maintaining peace, and educators shaping the future. He praised the collective strength of communities and the tireless contributions of business owners and citizens toward building a resilient nation.

Highlighting key milestones, President Bio celebrated Sierra Leone’s historic return to the United Nations Security Council, an achievement he described as an opportunity to amplify Africa’s voice on the global stage. He also commended the nation’s progress on governance and electoral reforms, urging citizens to uphold peace, unity, and shared values.

Economic Progress and Development Initiatives

President Bio outlined the economic strides made in 2024, including securing over $1 billion in grants and economic support from international partners. He spotlighted the $480 million Millennium Challenge Corporation Compact agreement, aimed at strengthening the energy sector, and the $800 million in pledges for the Feed Salone program and renewable energy investments.

He noted significant progress in reducing the nation’s dependency on imported food staples, including a 16% reduction in rice imports and notable decreases in imports of onions, chicken, and eggs. Additionally, he pointed to a stabilized exchange rate and marginal decreases in fuel prices as positive steps toward easing the financial burden on citizens.

“Our efforts under the Peak 5 Agenda signal our commitment to a sustainable future for all citizens,” he stated, calling on the nation to recommit to progress in the coming year.

President Bio encouraged Sierra Leoneans to embrace the values of tolerance, mutual respect, and love for one another during the festive season. “Let the biblical commandment, ‘Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself,’ guide us,” he said, urging citizens to support the less fortunate and strengthen bonds of unity.

In a special message to the youth, President Bio described them as the “heart of Sierra Leone,” while honoring the elders whose wisdom and sacrifices have built the nation’s foundations. He also extended his gratitude to Sierra Leoneans abroad for their contributions to the country’s progress.

As he concluded his address, President Bio renewed his commitment to serving the nation faithfully, calling for prayers for peace, wisdom, and strength to overcome future challenges.
