President Julius Maada Bio continues to enhance Sierra Leone’s visibility on the global stage as he was recently endorsed to serve as the Chairperson of the African Union’s (AU) African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM).
The event took place at the 35th Ordinary Session of Heads of State and Government of the AU in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia.
President Bio is already the Chairperson of the AU’s Committee of Ten (C-10) on the reform of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
In his new role, President Bio now has the mandate to lead and encourage his peers to observe and respect political, economic and corporate governance values in their respective countries.
Sierra Leoneans must be proud of President Bio, who has achieved so much in his tenure as the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
With such achievements, President Bio’s critics must now bow their heads in shame and go underground.
As for Sierra Leone, it is a novelty. It has never happened to a sitting president to hold two chairman’s positions in the AU, which makes it historic and unprecedented.
If our president must be honoured on the global stage, we should also celebrate and embrace him as our own.
