President Julius Maada Bio has received Hon. Justice Ricardo Claudio Monteiro, President of the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice, and his delegation at State House in Freetown for a courtesy visit.

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Alpha Sesay, noted that the purpose of the visit was to congratulate President Bio on his chairmanship of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS.

Mr. Sesay emphasized that the visit also aims to support the Attorney General’s Office by offering training and capacity-building sessions for state lawyers, enhancing their ability to effectively represent the state.

During the introduction of the delegation, Hon. Justice Sengu Koroma, Vice President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, expressed gratitude for the continued support from the Attorney General’s Office and assured President Bio of Sierra Leone’s strong representation at the Court.

In his remarks, Hon. Justice Ricardo Claudio Monteiro conveyed congratulations on behalf of the Community Court staff, describing President Bio’s appointment as significant and historic. He highlighted the confidence placed in President Bio by fellow Heads of State, stating it is a testament to his visionary leadership and a signal of trust in the regional integration agenda.

Monteiro expressed confidence that President Bio’s tenure would foster pragmatic leadership, strengthened cooperation among member states, and robust regional institutions. He assured President Bio of the Court’s support in advancing the rule of law, good governance, and human rights.

President Bio warmly welcomed the delegation, thanking them for their visit and commending the vital role of the ECOWAS Community Court in the region. He acknowledged the challenges faced by the Court and assured full support during his tenure.
