President Julius Maada Bio has pointed to what he described as years of neglect under the previous administration as his government undertakes renovation work at Magburaka Boys Secondary School.
Speaking during a recent engagement, President Bio said the school-once attended by former President Ernest Bai Koroma-had not received significant maintenance or “servicing” prior to the intervention of his administration. He made the remarks while highlighting ongoing efforts to rehabilitate educational institutions across the country.
The President’s comments come against the backdrop of continued investment in the education sector under the government’s Free Quality School Education programme. The initiative has focused on improving infrastructure in schools nationwide, with authorities emphasizing the need to upgrade learning environments and expand access to quality education.
According to officials, the renovation at Magburaka Boys Secondary School includes upgrades to classrooms, roofing, sanitation facilities, and general campus conditions. The school, located in northern Sierra Leone, is among several institutions currently benefiting from such interventions.
President Bio framed the project as part of a broader commitment to restoring public institutions that he said had been neglected in the past. His reference to former President Koroma, however, has drawn attention within political circles, where comparisons between successive administrations are a common feature of national discourse.
The government maintains that the ongoing rehabilitation of schools is central to its education reform agenda, aimed at addressing long-standing infrastructural challenges in both rural and urban communities.
