President Dr. Julius Maada Bio received the 2025 Status of Youth Report today, July 3rd, 2025, presented by the Minister of Youth Affairs, Mr. Ibrahim Sannoh, at the State House. The report provides a comprehensive overview of the challenges and opportunities faced by Sierra Leone’s youth.

The Director of Programmes, Mr. James Bondeva Sandi, emphasized the importance of the report, describing it as a critical, data-driven account that highlights the realities affecting young people, who make up a significant portion of the population. “Understanding their needs is essential for effective policy and programming,” he stated.

The report outlines strategic recommendations aimed at informing innovative youth empowerment initiatives. Mr. Abdu Muwonge, World Bank Country Manager, praised President Bio’s dedication to youth empowerment and stressed the need for aligning the government’s vision with practical skills development. “This report opens the door for deeper collaboration and targeted support,” he noted.

Youth Minister, Ibrahim Sannoh, thanked President Bio for his leadership, calling the report a historic milestone as it is the first comprehensive Status of Youth Report in Sierra Leone’s history.

He provided key recommendations, including the creation of a National Youth Wealth Creation Programme and stronger collaboration among stakeholders.

In his remarks, President Bio expressed his pleasure in receiving the report and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to youth inclusion. “We are very deliberate in putting youth at the center of national decision-making. They are our country’s greatest asset,” he said.

The President announced plans to present the report to fellow Heads of State in the ECOWAS subregion, noting its potential as a model for regional youth engagement. He emphasized the need to leverage the energy and creativity of young people for the continent’s growth.

President Bio reiterated his support for expanding vocational institutions and skills training. “Skills development is key to shaping their future and ensuring they succeed in society,” he added.

He concluded by thanking the Ministry of Youth Affairs and all partners involved in the report, calling it a vital tool for advancing youth empowerment initiatives in Sierra Leone.
