His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio received a courtesy visit from the Special Envoy of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, Mr. Sofiane Chaib, on Thursday, January 9, 2025.
Mr. Chaib, who also serves as Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the National Community Abroad, reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to enhancing diplomatic ties with Sierra Leone.
The visit, attended by Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Timothy Musa Kabba, was seen as a continuation of the diplomatic momentum initiated during President Bio’s state visit to Algeria in March 2023. Minister Kabba highlighted the significance of the envoy’s visit, describing it as a reflection of President Bio’s dedication to fostering stronger bilateral relations.
“This visit is a product of President Bio’s diplomatic strides with Algeria. It underscores our shared commitment to deepen bilateral ties and foster mutual growth,” Minister Kabba remarked.
Mr. Chaib, delivering a message from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, conveyed gratitude for the warm reception and reiterated Algeria’s readiness to broaden its partnership with Sierra Leone.
“On behalf of His Excellency President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, I bring a message of friendship and solidarity to the government and people of Sierra Leone. We are here to reiterate Algeria’s commitment to strengthening our relationship and exploring new avenues for collaboration,” he stated.
In his response, President Bio expressed appreciation for the envoy’s visit and the message from President Tebboune, emphasizing Sierra Leone’s enthusiasm to deepen diplomatic and economic ties with Algeria. “We are optimistic about advancing our partnership with Algeria.
This visit marks a step forward in widening the scope of our diplomatic relationship, and we look forward to exploring opportunities for mutual benefit,” President Bio said.
The meeting concluded with both nations reaffirming their commitment to fostering closer ties and exploring new areas of cooperation.
