Sierra Leone’s President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio has officially launched the first phase of the TAF Salone Micro-City project in John Obey, marking a major step forward in his administration’s efforts to address the country’s housing needs.

The launching event, which was held on Friday, 19th December, 2025, is aimed at providing affordable housing for Sierra Leoneans both at home and in the diaspora.

At the event, President Bio affirmed the importance of affordable housing as a key priority for his government. “Affordable housing stands as a vital pillar of my government’s dedication to the great people of Sierra Leone,” he stated.

The President described the TAF Salone Micro-City as a “groundbreaking step forward” and expressed confidence that the project would provide much-needed housing solutions for many citizens.

In his statement, President Bio also addressed the growing role of the Sierra Leonean diaspora, emphasizing that the TAF Salone Micro-City offers a welcoming environment for those considering returning to the country.

“Our brothers and sisters in the diaspora can now return home with confidence, to a vibrant community where they can live, thrive, and find peace,” he said.

The TAF Salone Micro-City project, which is being developed in phases, is designed to provide modern, sustainable, and affordable housing to a growing population. The first phase, which was launched today, is expected to accommodate thousands of people and create jobs while also contributing to the local economy.

President Bio’s government has made housing a central part of its broader development agenda, and officials hope the TAF Salone Micro-City will serve as a model for future infrastructure projects across the country.
