During the commissioning of the 100 Junior Secondary Schools across four districts on Saturday, President Julius Maada said he needs 500 of such schools across the country.

In a well-attended ceremony being graced by host of Ministers, Paramount Chief, Members of Parliament and pupils from various schools in the Bo district, the President was clear about his priority before he took up office in 2018.

Awoko reports that He told the gathering that education is the key for the development of any nation, and a result of such importance, he had to introduce the Free Quality Education (FQE), which he said had reduced tremendous burden on parents.

The President disclosed that it isn’t going to change overnight but with the system and approach they have put in place as a Government; the country is gradually getting there in terms of its educational structure.

He spoke about the latest progress being made by pupils who took both the BECE and NPSE examinations, as the results were very satisfactory with a lot of passes in both exams, he pointed out.

President Bio underscored that he did not only take away the burden of tuition fees or text books stress from poor parents, but also saved parents over Le13 billion in 2021 from the purchase of scratch card to access their kids BECE and NPSE results, which was never the case.

He called on the authority around the country, to pay premium on education, with special focus on the girl child, whom he said are sometime victims of society.

According to the Minister of Basic and Senior School Education (MBSSE) David Sengeh, in the next ten years, there will be 100% pass rate of pupils taking public exams.

The Minister made reference to the kids, who enrolled in schools under the President FQE, and promised a 100% pass rate for those children that will be approaching the NPSE, BECE and WASSCE in the nearest future.
