Human Resources Officer of Bloom Bank Sierra Leone Limited, Musa Joseph Sesay, and student Joshua Gbanyah appeared before Principal Magistrate Shar Kekura at the Freetown Magistrate Court No.1 on charges of larceny by servant, obtaining money by false pretence, and document forgery.
The allegations came as part of a wider investigation launched into fraudulent activities within the Bloom Bank.
According to the indictment, the offenses occurred between January 2, 2023, and March 31, 2024. Mr. Sesay, in his position at Bloom Bank, was accused of misappropriating funds that were meant for the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA).
Further details reveal that Mr. Gbanyah facilitated a scheme allegedly involving the payment of NLe 619,000 to an individual who was falsely identified as an EDSA agent.
It was also claimed that Mr. Gbanyah forged documents from the College of Digital Excellence (CODE), including a falsified statement of results.
Providing insight into the case, Chief Internal Auditor of Bloom Bank Africa, Ernest Ohue, testified that an EDSA meter was disconnected and removed on December 6, 2023, due to unpaid electricity credit linked to the alleged activities.
An investigation into the claims revealed that electronic vouchers amounting to NLe 619,000, presented as proof of payment, have been deemed false by EDSA.
The court proceedings have been adjourned and are scheduled to continue on May 16, 2025, for further testimonies.
