In a long-anticipated development, Bo City has officially received a fire-fighting engine, a critical addition to the region’s emergency response capabilities. The handover ceremony, held Monday, December 23, 2024, at the Fallah Checkpoint along the Bo-Taiama Highway, culminated in a procession to the Fire Force Office on Dambala Road.

The event, coordinated by the Regional Police Commander South and led by Superintendent Alieu S. Kamara, marked the culmination of sustained advocacy efforts by community stakeholders and local authorities. Addressing attendees, Superintendent Kamara stressed the engine’s significance, urging those responsible to ensure its proper maintenance and effective deployment for public benefit.

Regional Security Coordinator South, Mr. Bully, praised the acquisition as a critical enhancement of public safety infrastructure. “This is a victory for the community, and we must all work to ensure the engine is well-maintained and used responsibly,” he stated, expressing gratitude to the Government of Sierra Leone for addressing the city’s persistent request.

Chief Fire Officer Kamanda Bonga lauded the Government, led by President Julius Maada Bio, for prioritizing emergency preparedness. He assured residents of the Fire Force’s readiness to respond efficiently to emergencies, reinforcing public confidence in the city’s safety measures.

The Provincial Security Committee (PROSEC South), represented by Mr. Bully, formally accepted the keys to the engine, commending the collaborative efforts of stakeholders who advocated for the resource. The procession through Bo City’s main streets, symbolizing the achievement, drew cheers from residents before concluding at the Fire Force Office.

This historic milestone underscores a shared commitment between Government agencies, security forces, and local communities to enhance public safety in Bo City. With this addition, officials say the city is better equipped to respond to fire emergencies and safeguard lives and property.
