The Women’s Forum for Human Rights and Democracy (WORHRAD) with support from Action Aid on Thursday, June 20, 2024, held a refresher training for elected female members of parliament and councillors in Bombali District.

Funded by the European Union, the training centered around the Local Government Act of 2022 and the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Speaking at the training, the Co-Founder and Programs Coordinator of the Women’s Forum for Human Rights and Democracy, Emilia Kamara-Jengo, said the training is a testament to the organization’s commitment to empowering women to actively participate in decision-making processes.

Emilia Kamara-Jengo added that the organization has been providing support for female politicians before and after elections to promote efficient service delivery, saying “Most of these participants benefited from the training we conducted before the election and after they took oath of office. We are here again to refresh their minds and that’s why we saw the need to contact the Bombali District Council Chairman, Dr. Sisay, to facilitate today’s session.”

Lovetta Iye Turay, a councillor of the Makeni City Council, described the training as one of the best she has received, stating “Even though it’s not something new, this session is one of the because it was more in-depth and practical,” she said.
