The British High Commission in Freetown has congratulated Liam Rosenior on his appointment as Head Coach of Chelsea Football Club, describing the moment as a reflection of the strong historical and cultural links between the United Kingdom and Sierra Leone.
In a statement issued by the British High Commission in Freetown, the mission extended its “warm congratulations” to Rosenior, while highlighting his family’s long-standing connection to Sierra Leone through football.
According to the High Commission, Rosenior’s father, Leroy Rosenior, has played a notable role in Sierra Leone’s football history. Leroy Rosenior represented Sierra Leone in a 1994 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier played on 9 January 1993. He later served as Head Coach of the national team during the 2007 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. The Commission noted that his contribution remains an important part of the country’s football heritage.
The statement said this shared family history illustrates the “longstanding and meaningful links” between the United Kingdom and Sierra Leone, and shows how sport continues to strengthen cultural ties and people-to-people relationships between the two nations.
“As we celebrate the rich ties between our two countries, we congratulate Mr Liam Rosenior on this significant achievement and wish him every success as he begins this new chapter in his professional career,” the British High Commission said.
The message concluded with the words, “Two nations. One heritage. One future,” underscoring the shared connection highlighted by Rosenior’s appointment.
