Budget Advocacy Network has embarked on an online petition campaign for Sierra Leone’s International debt to be dropped in health and education.
According to Budget Advocacy Network, Sierra Leone has suffered from the negative effects of the Ebola Viral Disease in 2014 from dwindling her economic infrastructure to crippling her health system.
They furthered added in their campaign that the global coronavirus pandemic has exacerbated the problem worsening the country’s economic growth.
Sierra Leone’s total public debate at the end of 20220 amounted to 30.71 trillion(USSS3billion).
This amount is bigger than the entire 2019,2020 government budget put together. Debt servicing alone is taking 43% of the country’s domestic revenue hence reducing the fiscal space for the government to invest in social services such as health and education.
Budget Advocacy believes Citizens need to act now in a bid to cancel Sierra Leone’s debt and use those resources to support the country social delivery, especially health and education.
