Deputy Minister of Sports, Kai Lawrence Mbayo, in an emotional viral video has begged for justice after being disadvantaged by Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh allegedly.
This recent fiasco between the sports minister and the vice president ensued over a missing diamond for which the suspect, a business tycoon in the east of the country and his aides were released from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on the orders of the vice president allegedly.
Mbayo said in the video that it was Jalloh who ordered the release of the suspects from the CID.
“When I called him (the vice president) to ask about their release, he told me that he was the one that ordered their release,” the deputy sports minister said. He added that the vice president informed him that the reason he is interested in the matter is because the suspect’s father supported him financially when he was going to school in Kono.
“I pleaded with him not to meddle with the case but he refused,” Mbayo said. He said the vice president is denying the people justice as he also made significant efforts in stopping the case from going to court. Mbayo continued his plea for justice as the progress of the case in court is at a snail pace despite months of appearances.
“I believe that since the vice president is involved in this case, there will be no justice,” he said. “He is using his position to deny me justice.” He added that the vice president is abusing his power.
Mbayo said the vice president is notorious for this action while citing a similar incident in 2018. He called on the president and other Sierra Leoneans to aid him in his fight for justice.
The vice president is yet to comment on the issue but one political commentator said that Jalloh is innocent of the allegations and tagged it to be a ploy to drag his name to mud. The commentator also insinuated that some senior members of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) feel threatened of the relationship between the president and Jalloh thereby using the deputy sports minister as a means to an end.
“We will soon prove to the public that KLM (the deputy sports minister) is not working alone,” the commentator said.
