A delegation from the Carter Center in the United States on Friday, 25th April 2025, visited Sierra Leone’s Chief Justice, Honourable Justice Komba Kamanda.
The delegation registered their impression with the leadership provided at the Judiciary since His Lordship Honourable Justice Komba Kamanda was appointed the Chief Justice of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
The Carter Center is a not-for-profit organization founded by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, in 1982. It’s based in Atlanta, Georgia and works in partnership with Emory University. The Center’s mission is to advance peace, democracy, and health worldwide, with a focus on human rights and alleviating suffering.
“We are impressed with your leadership as the Chief Justice,” the head of Delegation and Associate Director, Kary Mackey said.
The team from Carter Center comprises Mohamed B. Jalloh, Local Program Coordinator, Tara Shariff- Senior Associate Director and Erica Phillips-Senior Program Associate. They said their visit, among other things, was to collaborate with the Judiciary specifically on gender issues.
The team has also brought in a Consultant that will develop a e olicy and training program on gender issues.
Receiving the team, the Honourable Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Komba thanked them for their visit and their complementary statements about the Judiciary.
He went further to express his desire to collaborate with the Carter Center and other institutions to make the Judiciary an enviable institution across the Sub-region.
“We are ready to collaborate and create partnerships, especially one that will improve on gender issues,” said Honourable Chief Justice Komba Kamanda, adding that, “You are welcome here, and thank you for visiting us.”
He used the platform to share his ambitious vision and encouraged them to support the Judiciary.
