Abdul Kandeh Turay, Chairman of the Karene District Council, has expressed his deep sadness and outrage following the brutal assault on 19-year-old Isatu S. Conteh, a native of Sella Limba Chiefdom.

The young woman was allegedly attacked by an officer of the Operational Support Division (OSD) attached to the Kamakwie Police Division, leaving her critically injured and hospitalized at Kamakwie Wesleyan Hospital.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation across the district, with calls for swift and decisive action. In a statement, Chairman Turay strongly condemned the assault, emphasizing that violence against women is unacceptable and must be met with the full force of the law.

“Women are to be cherished, respected, and protected—not subjected to such despicable acts of violence,” Turay stated. He assured the people of Karene District, particularly the women that he stands firmly with them during this time of distress and pledged that justice will be served.

Chairman Turay called on the citizens of Kamakwie and the entire Karene District to remain calm as investigations proceed. He emphasized the need for unity in the fight against violence and for creating a society where women can live without fear.

As the investigation continues, the Karene District Council is committed to ensuring that the perpetrator is held accountable for this heinous act. Chairman Turay urged the community to support Isatu S. Conteh and her family during this difficult time, reaffirming his commitment to justice and the protection of women’s rights in the district.
