Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, widely known as Cee Bah, has been named Minister of the Year 2024 by Diaspora Focus, an organization of Sierra Leoneans abroad.

The accolade recognizes Bah’s exceptional leadership in closing information gaps, advocating for progressive legislation, and empowering marginalized groups, particularly women and girls.

Diaspora Focus highlighted Bah’s achievements in spearheading reforms at the Ministry of Information and Civic Education (MOICE), where he has led initiatives to improve government transparency and public engagement. Key among his accomplishments are his instrumental roles in the passage of landmark bills in Parliament, including the Early Childhood Marriage Act and the Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Healthcare Bill.

Bah has also revolutionized the government’s communication strategy, transforming the weekly press conference into a robust platform that blends traditional and modern media. These conferences are now broadcast across MOICE platforms, as well as on radio and television, ensuring wider accessibility.

In addition to legislative and communication reforms, Bah has been lauded for his role in facilitating public dialogue on critical national issues. His moderation of the Presidential Townhall in July was particularly praised, as President Julius Maada Bio engaged directly with citizens in a two-hour interactive session.

The year 2024 also saw the successful launch of the inaugural Salone Civic Festival, a nationwide event celebrating Sierra Leone’s culture, history, and governance. The festival featured government ministers presenting their achievements alongside cultural performances and historical exhibits.

Cee Bah’s recognition underscores his commitment to fostering civic education, promoting inclusivity, and enhancing public trust in government institutions.
