Chief Justice Komba Kamanda has emphasized that building a better and more prosperous society requires the enactment of laws, formulation of policies, and removal of barriers that undermine the resilience of women and girls across Africa. On 12th December 2025.
Speaking on the theme “Building Resilience for Women and Girls in the Face of Climate Change and Conflict,” the Honourable Chief Justice highlighted that climate change and conflict are among the most pressing global challenges, with women being the most vulnerable. He explained that intensifying floods, droughts, storms, hurricanes, and rising temperatures are destroying homes, livelihoods, and infrastructure.
He further noted that when conflict escalates into war, women, often the primary providers, are exposed to harsh realities, including violence, displacement, disrupted education, and reduced access to land and essential resources.

“These vulnerabilities continue to deepen not because women are weak, but because systems have failed to protect them,” Chief Justice stated.
Despite these challenges, he affirmed that women and girls remain the bedrock of resilience within families and communities.
The First Lady of Sierra Leone and President of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), Fatima Maada Bio, thanked the visiting First Ladies from across Africa and commended the leadership of the Judiciary for its strong commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of women and girls.
“Thank you, Chief Justice,” while praising the leadership provided by the Honourable Chief Justice Komba Kamanda.
