Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, has reaffirmed his commitment to fostering youth development and radical inclusion within the country’s creative sector.
In a recent update titled “The Chief’s Diary: Radical Inclusion in the Creative Sector,” Dr. Sengeh shared a heartwarming account of his interaction with young artist TBG, highlighting the importance of empowering the nation’s youth to reach their fullest potential.
Earlier this year, Dr. Sengeh was introduced to TBG by Nasser F. Ayoub, a mutual friend who recommended one of the artist’s latest songs about the growing issue of “Kush” in Sierra Leone.
After listening to the track, the Chief Minister was captivated by the artist’s creativity and passion, prompting him to connect with TBG directly.
The relationship between Dr. Sengeh and TBG quickly blossomed as they discussed the possibility of creating a music video for the song.
With the support of a partner, the Chief Minister facilitated the production of the video and encouraged TBG to create additional content to showcase his talent.
Dr. Sengeh also shared the song with President Julius Maada Bio and the Minister of Social Welfare, both of whom expressed their admiration for the track. Renowned artist Drizilik also praised the song, further validating TBG’s potential.
Six months after their initial interaction, Dr. Sengeh and TBG finally met in person, where the young artist proudly presented the final version of his music video.
TBG was accompanied by his younger brothers, who assist with his music production, and their collective vision and determination impressed the Chief Minister.
Reflecting on the experience, Dr. Sengeh expressed his belief in the transformative power of radical inclusion and the need to support Sierra Leone’s youth.
“For me, I didn’t reach out to him because I had to. I did it because I believe in a more just society where everyone could reach their fullest potential,” Dr. Sengeh wrote.
“I did it because I believe in radical inclusion. I did it because at my core, I believe that the youth of this country have the biggest untapped potential, and our role as leaders is to help them become the stars that they are.”
Dr. Sengeh’s hands-on approach to engaging with young talents like TBG underscores his vision of nurturing Sierra Leone’s creative industry and empowering the next generation of artists. He remains optimistic about the future of the country’s youth and looks forward to seeing what TBG and his team will accomplish next.
