Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh has pledged 100 bags of cement to support the construction of a new police station in Bunumbu, a response to the community’s long-standing call for improved law enforcement facilities amid rising crime rates.
The Kpeje West Chiefdom warmly welcomed Dr. Sengeh’s support, hoping for further contributions from government officials.
Bunumbu, historically an educational center since the 1930s, has struggled with inadequate police facilities despite its growth as a regional hub for education, business, and agriculture.
The initiative gained traction with the arrival of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ansumana Conteh, who engaged the community to garner support.
At a community meeting, leaders, including the Kpeje West Youth Council, pledged land for the new police station.
The Kpeje West Family organization then sought assistance from government officials, with Prof. Marda Torlo Mustapha, its Chairman, successfully securing a meeting with the Chief Minister. Dr. Sengeh’s commitment was celebrated by the community, with Vice Chairman Mohamed Koi Bainda (Esq) announcing the pledge.
In addition to the Chief Minister’s support, the Kpeje West Family has received pledges from several notable figures, including Deputy Minister of Technical and Higher Education Hon. Sarjor Aziz Kamara, Office of National Security head Abdulai Avayama Caulker, Minister of Internal Affairs Gen. (Rtd) Taluva, and Joint Chiefs Commander Gen. Dauda Alpha.
The organization plans to approach other stakeholders, including Inspector General of Police Fayia Sellu, for further contributions.
