The Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Wang Qing, donated 500 bags of 25kg Chinese rice to the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF).
The donation was officially handed over on Friday, December 20, 2024, at the Joint Logistics Unit in Freetown.
The rice donation was received by Colonel (Rtd) Muana Brima Massaquoi, Deputy Minister of Defence, and Major General Amara Idara Bangura, Chief of Defence Staff of the RSLAF, along with other senior officers of the armed forces.
Speaking on behalf of the RSLAF, Colonel Massaquoi and Major General Bangura expressed profound gratitude to Ambassador Wang Qing for the support, describing it as timely and significant, particularly as it coincides with the festive season.
“This donation underscores the strong bilateral relations between Sierra Leone and China and will go a long way in boosting the morale of our troops during this season,” said the Chief of Defence Staff.
Following the donation ceremony, senior military officials, including the Deputy Minister of Defence and the Chief of Defence Staff, inspected the Peace Support Operations vehicles recently donated to the RSLAF by Triple Canopy.
The vehicles are expected to enhance the armed forces’ capacity to contribute to peacekeeping missions.
The event concluded with an inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects at the Murray Town Barracks, including newly installed boreholes and the progress on the self-help road reconstruction initiative.
The Chinese government has consistently supported Sierra Leone through various initiatives, reflecting a strong and enduring partnership. Ambassador Wang Qing’s donation reaffirms China’s commitment to fostering military and humanitarian cooperation with Sierra Leone.
