The Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Wang Qing has on his first courtesy visit on the Honourable Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Komba Kamanda, assured him of his government’s commitment to support the Judiciary in achieving its core objectives and values.

Speaking in the Chambers of the Hon. Chief Justice, the Chinese Ambassador said Peoples Republic of China and the Republic of Sierra Leone have both maintained bilateral relations at its best with a rich history dating back from 1971, stressing that his government is committed to ensuring that they come in to the support the Judiciary whenever they’re called upon.

He said his visit is to get the Chief Justice abreast with projects that the Chinese government is undertaking and implementing in Sierra Leone and to foster goodwill between the Embassy and the Judiciary.

Referencing the Embassy’s recent launch of a book authored by Professor David Francis, the Ambassador disclosed that the strong ties between both countries account for a number achievements including visits, education, technology, investments and trade among others.

Commending the people of Sierra Leone for their friendliness and the warn reception he has received since he arrived in Sierra Leone in January 2023, the Ambassador thanked the Hon. Chief Justice and the leadership of the Judiciary for the opportunity to strengthen collaboration between the judiciary of the two countries.

Receiving the Chinese Ambassador, the Hon. Chief Justice highlighted areas where corporation and support is timely including infrastructural boost, Solar Systems to boost energy supply, capacity building for Judges, Magistrates, and Senior Support Staff, advanced technology and effective internet connectivity among others.

He maintained that where the required funds are available, he intends to ensure the refurbishment and electrification of Provincial Courts through the provision of solar lights or generators across the country and the establishment of e-library among host of other proposed development.

The Hon. Chief Justice thanked the government and people of China for the longstanding cooperation between the two countries which he described as mutually beneficial.
