This morning, January 6, 2025, Abdul Fatoma, Chief Executive of the Campaign for Human Rights and Development International (CHRDI), hosted a significant meeting with key representatives from the European Union (EU) Delegation in Sierra Leone at the CHRDI office in Freetown.

Present at the meeting were the Deputy Head of the EU Delegation and the Programme Manager for Governance and Civil Society from the EU office.

The discussion centered on critical issues related to human rights and democracy, with both parties underscoring the universality and indivisibility of human rights. A key topic on the agenda was CHRDI’s upcoming Civic Space initiative, aimed at promoting active citizen engagement and safeguarding civil liberties.

Abdul Fatoma expressed optimism about building a strong partnership with the EU in Sierra Leone, noting the mutual benefits such collaboration could bring to advancing human rights and governance in the country. “We look forward to working closely with the EU Delegation in Sierra Leone on these crucial issues,” Fatoma stated.

The meeting was hailed as productive, setting the stage for future joint efforts between CHRDI and the EU to strengthen human rights advocacy and governance in Sierra Leone.
