The Director General of Sierra Leone Civil Aviation, Ms. Musayeroh Barrie, has been nominated to serve as vice chairperson of the upcoming 42nd General Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
This nomination marks a historic milestone, as it is the first time Sierra Leone has been entrusted with such a high-level leadership position within the specialized United Nations agency responsible for global aviation governance.
Ms. Barrie’s nomination represents not only a personal achievement but also a significant national accomplishment, placing Sierra Leone prominently on the global aviation map. It reflects international recognition of the country’s progress in civil aviation and underscores its commitment to safety, compliance, and policy development.
With this leadership role on the Administrative Commission, Sierra Leone will have a direct influence in shaping ICAO’s administrative, financial, and strategic frameworks. The nomination is expected to strengthen bilateral and multilateral ties, opening doors for international partnerships, technical cooperation, and development assistance in the aviation sector.
Moreover, increased visibility may lead to more ICAO-supported programs, scholarships, and training opportunities for Sierra Leonean aviation professionals, boosting national confidence and pride.
Reacting to her nomination, Ms. Barrie stated, “This nomination is not just a personal honour, but a victory for our nation. It proves that with dedication, transparency, and commitment to international standards, Sierra Leone can lead on the global stage. I am humbled by this opportunity and ready to represent Sierra Leone with diligence, integrity, and excellence.”
