The Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Francis Ben Kaifala, has highlighted the accomplishments of his commission over the past six years in the battle against corruption in the country.

He emphasized that the commission has diligently worked to ensure the ongoing success of the fight, reaching new heights. Kaifala revealed that their efforts are subject to scrutiny not only by internal monitoring but also by external entities.

“We are being rated and monitored by various entities, including international and local bodies. Given the multitude of assessments, we prioritize and consider a select few due to their significance,” he explained.

Kaifala mentioned that a team established by the British Consortium of Public Management and Finance conducted an evaluation of the anti-corruption efforts in the country. Their findings acknowledged the persistence of bribery as a challenge, but also recognized significant strides in the fight against corruption.

“This validation by external bodies, such as the MCC, has substantially boosted public confidence in our anti-corruption endeavors. The overall prevalence of corruption has witnessed a notable reduction, and we have consistently achieved commendable ratings for six consecutive years,” he affirmed.

Regarding Transparency International’s assessment, Kaifala informed that Sierra Leone started at the 131st position but has ascended 20 places to the 110th position over the past six years. This positive shift reflects a proactive approach taken by President Bio through the initiatives of the ACC.
