The Ministry of Communication, Technology, and Innovation (MoCTI) has officially launched a nationwide school tour to prepare young Sierra Leonean innovators for the Robotics for Good Youth Challenge 2026.

Running from 19 to 27 February 2026, the tour will visit five major hubs: Freetown, Makeni, Kono, Bo, and Kenema. Its primary goal is to engage students and identify the brightest young minds to represent Sierra Leone on the global stage at the AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Robotics for Good Youth Challenge is a prestigious, UN-backed global competition organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The program invites students aged 10 to 18 to design, build, and program robots that address real-world challenges, including disaster response and food security.

The Sierra Leonean chapter of the competition is a collaborative effort among MoCTI, the AI for Good Impact Initiative, and the Kamarayokie Innovation Center (KYIC).

Following the school tour, national qualifying events are scheduled for 21 March 2026 at the Bintumani Conference Center in Freetown. Winning teams will then travel to Geneva for the Grand Finale, competing against teams from around the world and showcasing Sierra Leone’s growing prowess in robotics and artificial intelligence.
