The Honourable Member of Parliament representing the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, reassured the public that the Parliament of Sierra Leone is fully operational within its legal mandate, regardless of the participation of the main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) party.

Addressing concerns about the absence of the opposition party’s involvement, Hon. Conteh highlighted the existence of several functional committees within the parliament. He emphasized that these committees operate based on the composition of their members rather than their political affiliations.

“It is important to clarify that the functionality and legitimacy of this parliament will remain intact, whether the APC participates or not,” asserted Hon. Conteh.

Furthermore, he refuted claims of a possible extension of the governance term from five years to seven years.

Hon. Conteh clarified that no such proposal or document has been presented to the House of Parliament.

With Hon. Tawa Conteh’s statement, the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) reaffirms its commitment to upholding parliamentary legality and operational efficiency, despite the absence of the main opposition party’s participation.

The parliamentary committees are poised to continue their work with vacant positions awaiting the eventual involvement of APC MPs upon their return to the parliament.
