The Council of Churches in Sierra Leone (CCSL) has partnered with the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) in an effort to bolster community-centered policing across the country,

Rev. Moses Khanu, the program manager for CCSL, led a delegation to meet with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. William Fayia Sellu at the police headquarters on George Street.

During the meeting, Rev. Khanu highlighted CCSL’s work across all sixteen districts of Sierra Leone, focusing on advocacy, gender issues, psychological counseling related to female genital mutilation, drug abuse, and sexual and gender-based violence.

“For over six years, we have engaged in community outreach programs, and we are pleased to strengthen our ties with the Sierra Leone Police for more effective service delivery,” remarked Rev. Khanu.

In response, IGP Sellu commended CCSL for the initiative and reiterated the SLP’s commitment to building trust through community-focused policing.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration with organizations like CCSL, stating, “This partnership aligns perfectly with our vision as we transition from a force to a service model. We look forward to collaborating, particularly in school sensitization and community engagement, which are vital for fostering trust with the public.”

To facilitate smooth collaboration, IGP Sellu appointed the Director of Gender and Community Relations to lead joint initiatives with CCSL, especially for outreach programs in schools. He also encouraged CCSL to work closely with the Transnational Organized Crime Unit on drug-related cases and counseling.

Additionally, he proposed that CCSL develop training programs for police personnel, recognizing that officers could benefit from counseling services as well.
