The Supreme Court of Sierra Leone has issued an injunction, effectively suspending the upcoming national executive elections of the Motor Drivers and General Transport Workers Union.

The order stems from an ongoing legal dispute between Alpha Amadu Bah, the Union’s current President, and Mr. Abu Saidu.

The injunction, delivered by the Supreme Court, prohibits all parties, their agents, and affiliates from conducting or participating in any elections for the national executive positions until the court reaches a final decision on the pending case.

The legal battle intensified after Alpha Amadu Bah filed a Notice of Motion on November 20, 2024. In his motion, Bah sought consequential orders and an interim or interlocutory injunction. He specifically aimed to prevent external parties from interfering or meddling in the Union’s electoral process.

The dispute highlights internal tensions within the Motor Drivers and General Transport Workers Union, a crucial organization representing transport workers across Sierra Leone. The court’s intervention underscores the gravity of the allegations and the need for a judicial resolution before the elections can proceed.

The case has been adjourned to Wednesday, March 26, 2025, when the Supreme Court will further deliberate on the matter.
