The legal team representing former President Ernest Bai Koroma reacted strongly to the grave allegations leveled against their client.

In an impassioned response to the charges of treason, Joseph Kamara, Koroma’s lawyer, expressed shock and disbelief, stating that “a dangerous precedent has been set”

Speaking to BBC reporter Umaru Fofana in court, Kamara condemned the charges as an act that has cast a dark shadow over the nation. He vehemently defended Koroma, stating that the allegations were part of a political vendetta, asserting that dragging a democratically elected former head of state on such charges sets a dangerous precedent.

The state’s claim alleges Koroma’s involvement in an alleged attempt to overthrow the government on November 26th, a claim vigorously refuted by Koroma’s legal representative.

The intensity of this legal battle and the high-profile nature of the accusations have sparked concerns about the state of democracy and political stability in Sierra Leone.
