With so many doubts to the 2022/2023 academic year in relation to the 2023 upcoming Presidential election, Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary School Examinations (MBSSE), David Moinina Sengeh has released the official 2022/2023 academic and when external exams are scheduled to hold.

According to the Ministry of Education Science and Technology, it pleases to inform the public that 2022/2023 academic year starts in September and end in July 2023. Schools first term are scheduled to start on the 5th September 2022 and ends on the 16th December 2022. Within this month, first term Christmas holiday is scheduled to hold on the 19th December to 1st January 2023.

Term 2 is scheduled to commence on the 3rd January 2023 and ends in April 6th 2023 with 15 complete weeks of learning. The Easter holiday is from 8th April to 20th April 2023.

The final term in the academic year will start on the 24th April to 14th July 2023 for a period of 11 weeks of intensive learning activities.

In the case of public examinations, the Ministry wishes to let the public know that the WASSCE, BECE and NPSE exams are scheduled on the following dates below:

NPSE EXAM 6th may 2023

WASSCE EXAM 20th February __ 17th March 2023

BECE June /July 2023

With this announcement from the Ministry to citizens, principles and school Head masters, there are reactions from many as they plead for a reschedule date for BECE exams. This is because the country will be going for it presidential election around the same time. Principles and heads of schools including parents are pleading to the Ministry to bring BECE exam date before the election as political tension might disrupt the examination. People further suggested if WASSCE and BECE exams can be taken together to create room for BECE exam. Citizens are optimistic but again doubtful as what the Pre and post election will look and urged the government to reflect on the aforementioned suggestions.
