In a heartfelt tribute, Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Prince Coker, Chairman of the All Political Parties Association (APPA) and a former presidential candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Coker, a long-time advocate for justice and inclusive political participation, passed away unexpectedly, leaving a significant void in Sierra Leone’s political landscape.
In his statement, Dr. Sengeh praised Coker’s unwavering dedication to his country, describing him as a “good man” and a politician who consistently prioritized national interest.
“There are many politicians we interface with, but you would be constrained to meet someone as dedicated to his nation as Mr. Coker,” wrote the Chief Minister.
Dr. Sengeh highlighted their work together, particularly during Coker’s tenure as chair of APPA and as a member of the Tripartite Implementation Committee.
Coker was known for his advocacy of inclusive multi-party engagement, championing the voices of smaller political parties and underrepresented groups in the country’s political system.
“He always always always advocated for others, and he fought for justice,” Sengeh noted, emphasizing Coker’s commitment to ensuring that all political actors were heard and involved in the nation’s governance process.
Reflecting on their last interaction, Dr. Sengeh shared that he had missed a call from Coker the day before his passing, making the news even more shocking. “I was shocked today to hear of his passing… Still in shock,” he expressed.
Prince Coker’s leadership and efforts to transform Sierra Leone’s political system have left a lasting impact. His contributions, particularly in advocating for fairness and justice, will be remembered by colleagues and citizens alike.
Dr. Sengeh concluded his tribute with a promise: “Rest in peace, Prince, and trust we will continue our fight to transform this nation.”
