In the early hours of Thursday, 24th April, 2025, a dead body of a young boy was discovered on the shores of Aberdeen Beach in Freetown.
As put forward by authorities, they believed that the boy may have drowned during a swimming session.
Reports further indicated that the boy, found wearing only underwear, was lying motionless on the sand, which has left beachgoers and local residents in a state of grief and concern.
Images of the tragic discovery circulated on social media, prompting an outpouring of sympathy from the community, raising an alarm for security officials to swiftly respond to the situation.
Community members have since urged the Sierra Leone Police to take immediate action by retrieving the body and launching an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. They are also called for efforts to locate the boy’s family.
The incident marks the second similar discovery in just two days. On Wednesday, residents of the Jui community were similarly disturbed when a body was spotted floating near the riverbank by the Jui Bridge.
Eyewitnesses to that incident reported that the sight of the body drifting close to the shore caused panic, prompting locals to alert authorities right away.
In both instances, community members have appealed to law enforcement and relevant agencies for a prompt response, calling for urgent investigations to prevent further tragedies and to shed light on those incidents.
As of now, officials have yet to release the identities of the deceased or provide additional details regarding the causes of death.
We will provide the necessary information as the situation unfolds.
