The Minister of Health and Sanitation (MOHS) Austin Demby has signed the Family planning 2030 commitment.
The signing is part of the minister’s transformational health program in the country in terms of family planning and its related items, which may help boost the health sector.
The process was witnessed by UNFPA and partners.
“We targeted increasing contraceptive prevalence to more than 35% by 2030. Will help us realize the Demographic Dividends and strengthen human capital development through planned and healthier families” he noted.
The minister has also disclosed that, he met with the new UNICEF SL country representative, Rudolf Schwenk and he shared with him his vision of a robust healthcare system built on the foundation of universal health coverage following life stages, adding that, they both committed to provide the best medical services for all Sierra Leoneans.
He furthered that, on opportunities for supporting sustainable energy solutions for rural hospitals and primary healthcare units, he had the time to meet and discuss with Pa Lamin Beyai, the country representative for UNDP SL, maintaining that, the cost assessments have been done already and it only remains to identify the sites for installation.
