Sierra Leone has on Monday, January 19, 2026, recorded a major milestone in its healthcare reform efforts with the official launch of the country’s first National Health Information Hub, a digital platform aimed at strengthening health data management and improving service delivery nationwide.
The hub was launched by the Minister of Health and Sanitation, Dr. Austin Demby, PhD, MPH, on behalf of President Julius Maada Bio, as part of government efforts to promote evidence-based planning and decision-making within the health sector.
According to the Ministry of Health, the National Health Information Hub will provide real-time data on key maternal and child health indicators, including pregnancies, deliveries, antenatal and postnatal care, immunization coverage, and mortality rates.
The centralized digital system is expected to support policymakers, health professionals, and development partners in making informed decisions to improve health outcomes across the country.
Health officials said the platform will enhance monitoring, planning, and resource allocation, particularly in hard-to-reach and underserved communities. They noted that access to timely and accurate health data will strengthen the Ministry’s capacity to respond to emerging health challenges and improve the quality of care at all levels of the health system.
The initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3), which seeks to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all, and supports Sierra Leone’s drive toward achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
Stakeholders at the launch described the hub as a transformative development for the health sector, emphasizing the importance of data-driven decision-making in reducing maternal and child mortality and improving overall health system performance.
The National Health Information Hub is expected to play a key role in modernizing Sierra Leone’s healthcare system and advancing the government’s vision of a resilient, inclusive, and people-centered health sector.
