Deputy Minister of Energy, Dr. Eldred Taylor, conducted an inspection of hybrid electricity installations on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, expressing satisfaction with both the Moyamba Township Electrification Project funded by the Government of Sierra Leone and the 1MW Solar Power Plant funded by the World Bank.
The Seven Districts Electrification Project, launched between 2020 and 2021, aims to provide electricity to several townships including Moyamba.
Infrastructure in Moyamba, including poles, cables, and a switching station, is complete, with 2MW of Diesel Thermal Power Plants installed. Plans include a long-term rental scheme for meters to ensure reliable electricity access.
The 1MW Solar Power Plant is 95% complete, with a Battery Energy Storage System to be delivered soon. The plant will be operated by an EPC Contractor, with training for EGTC staff.
Ongoing energy sector reforms align with the Feed Salone agenda for sustainable development in Sierra Leone.
