In a significant step toward enhancing child protection measures, the Deputy Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, Hon. Buakai Bindi Hindowa, signed a performance contract with the National Commission for Children (NCC) yesterday.
The agreement, which took place at the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs, formalizes a collaborative effort to strengthen child welfare across the country.
The ceremony, chaired by Deputy Director of Children’s Protection Mr. Charles Vandy, brought together key officials from both the Ministry and the NCC. Notable participants included Mr. Ibrahim Kamara, Director of Planning; Mrs. Aminata Yeama Sannoh, Permanent Secretary; Mr. Joseph Sunday Sinah, Chief Director; Mrs. Joyce Weyah Tejan-Kella, NCC Commissioner; and Mr. Mustapha Sheku, NCC Deputy Commissioner.
In his opening address, Mr. Vandy highlighted the Ministry’s strategic policies aimed at improving child protection. Commissioner Tejan-Kella emphasized the importance of the performance contract, stating that it aligns with the NCC’s strategic objectives and mission. She expressed optimism about the contract’s role in clarifying the responsibilities of both parties in advancing child welfare.
Deputy Minister Hindowa underscored the significance of the partnership in tackling child protection challenges nationwide. “This contract is a vital tool for improving child welfare in Sierra Leone. We will work closely with the NCC and other stakeholders to combat domestic violence and support vulnerable children,” he said.
Permanent Secretary Sannoh concluded the event, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to the principles outlined in the contract and pledging continued cooperation with the NCC.
The performance contract signals a renewed commitment to safeguarding children’s rights and well-being in Sierra Leone, marking a pivotal moment in the country’s ongoing efforts to enhance child protection systems.
