The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh has issued a stern warning regarding the unresolved issue of vehicles for the leadership of Parliament. He stated that Parliament has struggled with the matter for the past 18 months and emphasized the urgency of reaching a decision.

Speaking on the floor, Hon. Conteh said, “We are sure that the issue of vehicles for the leaders of Parliament has been a long-standing struggle. We will take the budget up, and if by tomorrow there is no definitive answer regarding the vehicles, we will halt the process and continue next year.”

He further warned that the state will have to rely on presidential arrangements until a solution is found. “You are not treating this matter seriously,” he added.

“We have come from the point of demanding vehicles for all leaders to negotiating for some. Even the few we’ve negotiated, we expect an amount as incentives to show commitment, even for those we cannot commit fully.”

Highlighting the practical challenges, Hon. Conteh said, “Imagine the Speaker of Parliament does not have a vehicle. If he wants to travel to Liberia, he has to rent a vehicle for himself and the delegation. This is necessary to maintain the dignified image of Sierra Leone, and it is not fair that such issues remain unresolved.”

The Parliament now faces a tight deadline to resolve the matter before proceedings are paused for the vacation period.
