Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has outlined reasons why the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) should continue in office beyond 2028, listing government efforts since 2018 in areas such as health, education, energy, and agriculture.

He was speaking in London on 25 July 2025 during a meeting with Sierra Leonean organisations in the UK, where he responded to a question about whether the party deserved a third term in office.

He mentioned a decrease in maternal mortality from over 1,000 per 100,000 to about 334 within five years, along with changes in infant mortality. He cited education measures, including the Free Quality School Education programme and the School Feeding initiative. He added that public exam fees are now covered for pupils in government schools.

He spoke about the Gender Equality Act, which allocates 30% representation for women in Parliament, Cabinet, and public institutions. He noted that more young women have taken up public roles.

On energy, he stated that access to electricity has increased from 16% in 2018 to 34%, and that investment in the energy sector is ongoing, including support from the US government through the MCC Compact.

On agriculture, he referred to the Feed Salone programme and rising budget support for food production. He said that import volumes of certain goods such as rice, onions, and cooking oil have reduced, while some local products are now exported to nearby countries.

He also mentioned that more teachers, health workers, and other professionals have been recruited since 2018. Mining laws have been revised and new institutions such as the National Investment Board have been established to support business activity.

On regional matters, he referenced Sierra Leone’s current ECOWAS leadership and involvement in regional security discussions.

The Vice President concluded his remarks by referring to the Bio-led government’s activities over the past seven years and said that the SLPP plans to continue with its current approach in the coming years.
