The Director General for the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), Ing. Alfred Jalil Momodu, gave an overview of the Engineering Design and History of the Newly Constructed Mattru – Senehun Bridge in Bonthe.

President Bio on Friday July 4th, 2025, officially commissioned the Mattru Bridge, reflecting a crucial milestone in his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development in Sierra Leone.

The construction of the bridge was overseen by the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), with Director General Ing. Alfred Jalil Momodu ensuring that all technical requirements were met throughout the project.

During the Formal Commissioning of the Matru-Senehun Bridge by His Excellency Dr.  Julius Maada Bio, Director General of SLRA, Ing. Alfred Jalil Momodu gave a rundown, saying the bridge is the vision of President Bio to transform road infrastructure in the country.

He further highlighted that the bridge is about 160 meters long, and it is wide enough that vehicles moving in and out will not be obstructed.

Director General Momodu also noted that the bridge has a lot of components that will ensure safety and fully of traffic. He also noted that the SLRA and partners ensure they work closely with the contractors to ensure that standards are met.

“Because of the Engineering Design and Standards of the Mattru – Senehun Bridge, that bridge will last for a minimum of a hundred years,‘’ he stated.

The event, which took place in Bonthe District, was attended by local leaders and community members who celebrated the completion of the new two-lane bridge.
